Future Queries from the Caribbean (2024)
Let’s not water down meaning of justice; Will our children be guests on our islands? Have unfettered access to their environs? Will they eat without serving tourists? And what of dignity? Where will they live? Where will they shelter from the blazing sun? What sort of air will they breathe in their lungs? And how much will they be asked to forgive? Will they experience bounty in nature? Still go fishing in still pristine waters? Will they see in our legacies wisdom? Will they enjoy the fruits of their labour? Will they have any pride in their elders? Or blame them for squandering their freedom?
I wrote this poem for submission locally as well as regionally but unfortunately it was not selected. Sharing here in case it finds the amenable audience it deserves outside of formal institutions. Hope you enjoyed. Subscribe to see more content like this.
